A Few Things

You probably noticed the new curtains. Finally, I got around to creating my own design for this site. There are still elements of the previous theme here, and I will be changing them in time. For now though, I can at least call this my own.

Today in the car, I asked Gray what his website address was. He knew.

I heard a song I liked on Radio Paradise the other day, and I looked up to see what it was. Turned out to be by Belle and Sebastian, a group I had previously avoided because I didn’t like the name. I ended up downloading the whole album, called The Life Pursuit, and am digging it. I continue to suprise myself, as I never would have liked such artsy pop-rock 10 years ago at all.

The Best News EVAR

I just learned that Dinosaur Jr is playing here at the Orange Peel April 7!!!

This is probably the biggest moment of my musical life. As I have written before, this band influenced me so much, and their 2nd album is still my favorite record of all time. Yet, I have never seen them. And they are touring with the original lineup!!!

I bought 2 tickets. Who wants to go?

Progress

No news in the baby department yet. Alicia’s due date is this Saturday the 12th. You dear readers will be among the first to know. In fact, I am considering a live webcast from the delivery room, with a chatroom where you all can ask questions and comment on the proceedings. Ok now I have considered it.

I have still been busy on side web work, nearing completion on MikeSnipesForJudge.com and MiramarSeafood.com. Still working on my brother’s site for is political campaign, as well as the larger book store project. I have employed the help of June because of her Zen Cart expertise. And I just posted a link to her site so that she will feel the pressure to do something with it.

I bought a brand new drum set for the first time in my life. These suckers are baaaaaad. This is what they look like:
My New Drums
They are DW Pacific CX’s.

So if anyone is in the market, I have a 6-piece set of Pearl World Series drums from 1990. These are the same drums used to record Speed.

Why did I buy new drums? I have been playing music in a band again. More on that later.

History

On the heels of the newly posted Undermine MP3’s comes an exhaustive list of shows I played while in Louisville bands. This list is complete, from Substance to Crain. There are also anecdotes as they were originally written by me back in the day.

Undermine

Some yokels from the LouisvilleHarcore.com site asked me about some rare Undermine tunes I had played on and recorded during that band’s last days. Luckily, I found the CD that contained them, and I have posted them on my music site in MP3 format. As always, they are free to download, but donations to pay for the bandwidth are highly encouraged 😉

Where Have I Been?

Sometimes I could kick myself. I had no clue the original Dinosaur Jr. had reunited and were on tour until someone told me last week. Yes, I have missed seeing them.

What hurts worse is that in London on June 21 they played all the songs from You’re Living All Over Me in order, from start to finish. This is my all-time favorite album!!!.

Argh!!!

In other music related news, Mr. Geer seems to have his web site going in the right direction.

Passing Time

Time has been flying by quickly again. Not that it ever really stopped flying by quickly, because we all know that as we approach the dimensional shift, time speeds up anyway. Right?

We had a little yard sale today. By little, I mean our whole street organized a big sale and about 12 families participated up and down the road. Exit polls indicate that we made out the best of the families, breaking the $100 mark by noon.

Today was also Kentucky Derby Day, and I planned on watching it, but then I remembered it was on when Alicia, Gray, and I were at the bookstore. I think this is only the second one I have missed watching on TV since I moved away from Louisville in 1992.

Speaking of Louisville (no, I’m not mentioning basketball), the Louisville Eccentric Observer (LEO) reviewed the Crain re-release. They never reviewed it when it came out in 1991, so it was good to see they had the guts to do it this time, and it was better to see that they liked it.

I’ve been quite busy with home-based work lately, and am currently working on 4 projects. One is for a Washington, DC-based guitar player, another is a remake of the NCMAMA web site, another is for a Waste Management software company in Kentucky, and the last is for something else which I guess I shouldn’t announce until negotiations are finalized.

And to top it all off, I found my toenail and fingernail clippings collection yesterday. I didn’t want to mention it here that I had lost them because I feared I might cause mass-hysteria. But yes, I had thrown them into a tupperware bin that I had stored some knick-knacks in in the basement a few months ago. That was a major oversight on my behalf. In celebration of finding them, I clipped my nails this evening. Pictures soon to follow.

Tunes and Tweaks

My old college chum Chris Geer emailed me the other day. I hadn’t heard from him in a while and it was good to hear that he is staking out his territory on the WWW.

A couple of years back, Chris asked me to sit in on banjo when he was recording in the studio, and I had not heard the songs we did since that day. He was kind enough to send me one (and is looking for the other), so I posted it on my free music site for download. It’s under the “Morgan ‘Chris’ Geer” section of that page.

While I was doing that, I realized that my entire music site was getting cramped, so I went ahead and redesigned it from scratch. Why I chose to do this at 9pm on a Thursday night, I don’t know, but thanks to the magic of Cascading Style Sheets I was done in an hour.

So, then I started looking at the disheveled appearance of this site and messed around with the typography, layout, colors, and other stuff. You may or may not notice a cleaner appearance now. I plan on changing the header soon.

I also cleaned up the links at left, removing some dead ones and adding some new ones. So take a few minutes to peruse all the newness.
