I actually got to see about 1/3 of this game! Why on Earth CBS felt we should be watching the Illinois game is beyond me. At least it wasn’t a Duke game this time, even though Jay Bilas was announcing.

I would never have predicted this outcome, a 76-54 thrashing of Georgia Tech. I had actually prepared myself to see the end of the season today, for I thought a healthy GT was certainly a better team than Louisville. But 76-54!
It was bittersweet though. The only part of the game they showed here was the last minute of the first half. I faithfully sat and watched the little sidescore box on CBS during the Puke game again, getting up to check the computer every commercial. HOW ANNOYING!!!
Hopefully, with only 16 teams left, there will be no need to have two games going on at once, and I will be able to see Louisville take on Washington.

Thanks to the venerable Bob Weston, I now have a copy of Crain playing live WMBR radio in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This was recorded by Bob at the radio station after we were done playing at Hampshire College (if my memory serves me correctly), which put it at about 3am. The date was some time in April, 1992, on the Speed LP tour de mayhem.
I also recently learned that the re-issue of Speed will be available on the iTunes Music Store whenever they get around to adding it.
That was extremely frustrating. I was pulling my hair out for 2.5 hours, watching the little box with the score of the games not being shown. CBS chose not to show the Louisville game here, favoring Puke instead (of course). They cut over to it with 13.9 seconds left, which was long enough for me to watch Francisco Garcia and Taquan Dean make free throws to clinch the win.
At least it was a win. An ugly win, but that doesn’t matter now. They are in round two, which is good news.
Oh, and Clarke Kellog, eat dirt!

When Dick Vitale writes an article about it, you know it’s bad. Mr. ACC doesn’t give out props to other teams than Duke that often.
Just in time for NCAA Basketball Tournament smack talking, I got the Forum fixed.
So every sports writer, fan, and opponent thinks the Louisville Cardinals got utterly hosed in the NCAA Tournament seedings. They got a number 4 seed after having THE best resume of any team since January. Look at this:
What gives??? The only consoling factor is that they are in the easiest bracket and have been picked by many, including myself, to be in the Final Four. In fact, I have them facing Duke in the championship game.

I’m in Oracle Application Server 10g administration training all this week. The AF brought in an Oracle person to teach us how to use the software since that’s what we will be developing the new site on. We have two more weeks coming up soon. So far, I have learned a good bit of cool stuff.
A large part of the training has related to using the Apache web server, which unfortunately in Oracle AS 10g is version 1.3 instead of 2.0. I am realizing that much of what this expensive piece of software does is simply make it easier to edit Apache configuration files. They just present you with a nice GUI interface in which you can change config settings, add virtual hosts, and restart the httpd service.
I’m sure there will be a lot more to it than that though. I learned a lot about mod_rewrite today, which I have used in the past in a limited capacity. It helps me a lot to learn in a classroom setting though, and I now understand it much better than ever before. Being able to ask questions and get things explained in various ways if need be helps a lot.

Hopefully, once the training sessions are complete, Oracle will offer the 10g Web Administrator certification. Right now it’s still only offered in 9i.

There are also links to regional radar maps (loopable) and lots of other cool weather geek info. I have an inside track on this sort of thing these days, which makes me even geekier. I know you are jealous.

And about the Internet Explorer thing, it’s not really a new version of the browser, it’s a service pack. Looks like they are feeling a wee bit threatened by someone.
