Introducing the Plaintext Report

Sometime within the last few years there’s been a noticeable shift, or at least a trend, toward returning to a simpler time on the internet. Remember the World Wide Web? It was an exciting place to be where everyone seemed to have this shared goal of building a network of people, sharing knowledge and existing together in cyberspace. It was a simpler time. But we’ve become jaded.

We’ve lost our innocence and now everything is dominated by corporations. Advertisers masking as search engines and stalwart social media apps that no one can seem to leave, but everyone seems to hate.

I first noticed the Small Web when Kagi introduced it as part of their efforts to re-humanize the Web. I was honored to learn this blog made it into their directory of Small Web sites carrying on the traditions of the 90’S and 00’s.

A coupled of days ago I stumbled upon The Brutalist Report – a simple, no-nonsense news website, and it quickly became my go-to source for what’s going on. However, it was lacking infosec news, so my brain got to thinking (a dangerous sign), and I whipped up something similar as a side project, but focused it on some of the better security news sites.
